Common Questions About Transmission Repairs and Services

A transmission is simply the gearbox of a vehicle. It is one of the most complicated components on a vehicle next to electrical. There are a variety of transmissions depending on the make and model of the vehicle. In some cases, the vehicle's year can also make a difference in the components of the transmission. In some cases, the vehicle's VIN needs to be confirmed. This is why it is difficult to quote prices without first seeing the vehicle. There are two types of transmissions: automotive transmissions and manual transmissions.

Automatic transmissions have torque converters that rely on built-in components like processors, sensors, and actuators to operate the clutch, depending on the speed at which the vehicle is going.

Manual transmissions do not have torque converters and are operated manually by the driver.

A transmission is what moves the power from the engines to the wheels. A vehicle's transmission is one of its most critical components. A good example is chains on a bicycle. If the chain on a bicycle is broken or constricted, then the gears will not turn, and the bicycle will not move properly. When a transmission is not working properly, the vehicle will not get the correct amount of power to operate correctly. Without a proper transmission, the vehicle will have difficulty moving and be utterly unreliable, leaving you stranded. This is where the Advanced Transmissions team comes to the rescue for all your transmission rebuilding, replacement, and repair needs. Give Advanced Transmission a call at 251-626-6061. Located in Spanish Fort, AL.

Advanced Transmission, Inc. does not recommend driving any vehicle that is experiencing transmission failure. Driving a vehicle with possible transmission damage can risk more damage to other parts within the transmission, resulting in a higher repair bill. If your vehicle is leaking transmission fluid, it can be hard to determine how much and for how long it has been leaking. For this reason, it is not suggested that you drive the vehicle with possibly low transmission, as this can damage your transmission.

Performing timely transmission services can help prolong the life of your transmission. Transmission services are usually performed every 30,000 – 50,000 miles. We also suggest towing 10% below your manufacturer's maximum towing capacity recommendations. Service is not suggested if you are experiencing problems. If you are experiencing problems, then a service will not fix or repair the damaged transmission. Call us at 251-626-6061 to get more details and schedule an appointment.

We at Advanced Transmission, Inc. perform a full inspection with a road test, lift check, and diagnosis scan. If a road test can be performed, one of our technicians will take your vehicle on a short- or long-distance road test, depending on the customer's complaints. We have designated driving routes we use for different diagnosis needs. After the road test, a lift check is performed. Our lift check lets us look underneath the vehicle for possible leaks or damage. Then, finally, a scan test is performed to check for any codes.

At Advanced Transmission, we perform our inspections to ensure we are providing quality service. After a technician has performed a diagnostic and transmission damage is present, a service advisor will call to discuss options. These options will depend on the amount of damage and the vehicle's year, make, and model. Our service advisor will work diligently to find the most effective route for you so you can get back to the more essential things in life.

Rebuilding
Rebuilding a transmission is started after the vehicle has been diagnosed with a transmission problem and repairs have been approved by our customer. Advanced Transmission, Inc. pledges to all our customers that we will not remove a transmission from a vehicle to complete a repair unless necessary. When we build our transmissions, we update all internal components to be better than the factory.
Replacing
Replacing a transmission is another option we provided besides rebuilding. There are a few reasons why replacement will be or has to be an option. If replacing your transmission with a remanufactured or used transmission is needed, our skilled and trained team will determine if replacement is the best option for you.
Repairing
Repairing a transmission can be an option in some cases where damage is repairable. Repairing is another term for rebuilding. Continuing to drive a vehicle with damage until it can’t move can make a transmission unrepairable. Please call Advanced Transmission at 251-626-6061 as soon as possible for more information.

We do not offer free towing. Did you know that most people have roadside assistance built into their current insurance plans? Some insurance companies even offer 3 free tows, every 6 months, with roadside assistance plans. Check with your insurance company before accepting free towing assistance from any shop.
